Traditional marketing methods built the idea that Fridays were the best day of the week for job posting, because of the publishing location. Previously, most jobs were posted in newspapers, and people would spend their free time on the weekends perusing the classified section to look for new work opportunities. Hiring managers knew that their ad would be viewed by more people during the weekend, and would select weekend publishing dates instead of weekdays.
But, things quickly changed when job postings shifted to online platforms. Suddenly, job seekers had instant access to job advertisements at any moment. Even though the publishing platform changed, some of the hiring managers and recruiters are stuck in old-fashioned ways of thinking, and still assume that Friday is always the best day for job ads.
Best Day/Time for Job Ads
Recently, it was found that the majority of job applications and responses peak on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. So, if you want your ad to be visible, then you need to make sure that you have a new job posted during these times. Job seekers are looking specifically during the lunchtime hours, as well as evening hours between 5:00 – 7:00 pm.
You can be strategic with your placement by publishing your new ad during these hours, to ensure that your posting is at the top of the job board when the highest number of people are looking. The views will start to decrease later in the week, and Friday is now the worst day for a new job posting. By Friday, most people are burnt out after a week of work, and they are ready to enjoy their weekend and face their job and career decisions the following week.
